Week 40 - Parallel MD - PSB

Rzero LL commissioning

A. Findlay

Aim: Commission the Rzero beam control to be a PPM replacement for the R4 beam control.
Results: Debugged the LL hardware and software using only the cycle timing, trying to get it to mimic the R4 behaviour. Once we saw similar behaviour, start to check with beam the injection & capture, phase loop response, radial loop response & synchronisation loop response. Test and commission workingsets and synoptic.

Next stage: We noted a difference in the phase between the C02 & C04 cavities on the Rzero system compared to R4, so this will have to be investigated. This is thought to be limiting the maximum intensity we can accelerate, so we can’t yet mimic the performance of the R4 LL. We still require the samplers and OASIS signals to be commissioned for this system. The Rzero LL is now available for specialist MDs where HW & software that could compromise operational settings can be safely tested.
