Week 41 - Parallel MD - SPS
Ar Ion beam setup
T. Bohl
Thursday 2014-10-09
It was the first time that we
had the cycle
SFT_ION_4Inj_E333.33L1236_2014_V1 available. Due to a large
number of
software changes concerning FESA, LSA, Timing et cetera and
hardware
changes in the RF low level we expected a relatively long time to
get a
basic set-up of the cycle.
During the initial part of the
setting-up the rev. freq. was not yet
generated on the ion cycle. For the
first hour of the setting-up the
fixed target operation was affected by the
ion cycle due to that: the
beam dump interlock system is not working ppm and
it stopped the fixed
target beam although the RF was working fine during the
fixed target
cycle. For the rest of the day there was no interference with
the fixed
target operation.
The whole day was used for a basic
setting-up of the RF low level.
Friday 2014-10-10
During the
morning we could get the low level ready for injection of the
Ar ions and we
requested the beam from the CPS at the beginning of the
afternoon. The CPS
confirmed that the Ar ions could be synchronised with
the RF signal from the
SPS. The Ar ions were extracted and seen on
