Week 27 - Parallel MD

1) Reminder: During the days (08:00 to 18:00) the SPS supercycle is SFTLong-3CNGS-LHCFAST-MD (length = 40 BP = 48 s), while during nights and week-ends it is SFTLong-3CNGS (length = 28 BP = 33.6 s).

2) There should always be 1 cycle reserved for parallel studies in the PSB.

3) During the week (when possible) the PS will continue to work on the matrix measurements with the 5-CM PFWs (on MDPS or TSTPS, i.e. 2 BP cycle, R. Steerenberg).

Monday 30/06 and Tuesday 01/07 (08:00 - 18:00) - Low intensity LHC ("nominal") beam in the PS (+ controlled transverse emittance blow-up in the SPS parasitically)

Beam conditions: SPS user = LHCFAST1 (supercycle = SFT_LONG-3CNGS-LHCFAST-MD37_V1), PS user = TSTLHC25 and PSB user = MD2

#bunches = 12-48

Transverse emittances: No constraint (will be smaller than nominal and should be increased in the SPS with the transverse dampers)

Longitudinal emittance: nominal => has to be e_L^* = 0.35 eV.s at the end of the PS

Wednesday 02/07 (08:00 - 18:00) - Measurement of the SPS transverse impedance

Beam conditions: SPS user = MD1 (supercycle = SFT_LONG-3CNGS-LHCFAST-MD37_V1), PS user = MD4 and PSB user = LHCPROBE

#bunches = 1

N_b = San from ~ 1.0 x 10¹⁰ p/b to ~ 1.0 x 10¹¹ p/b => Ask Klaus to adjust it in the PSB + Heiko to check that everything is OK in the PS

Transverse emittances: e^* ~ 1 mm (we take what the PSB can deliver => Will vary with the vertical shaving)

Longitudinal emittance: e_L^* ~ 0.15 eVs

Thursday 03/07 (08:00 - 18:00) - Measurement of the SPS longitudinal impedance

Beam conditions: SPS user = MD1 (supercycle = SFT_LONG-3CNGS-LHCFAST-MD37_V1), PS user = MD4 and PSB user = LHCPROBE

N_b = San from ~ 1.0 x 10¹⁰ p/b to ~ 1.0 x 10¹¹ p/b => Ask Klaus to adjust it in the PSB + Heiko to check that everything is OK in the PS

Transverse emittances: e^* ~ 1 mm (we take what the PSB can deliver => Will vary with the vertical shaving)

Longitudinal emittance: e_L^* ~ 0.15 eVs

Friday 04/07 (08:00 - 18:00) - Rephasing of the LHC beam at flat top in the SPS

Beam conditions: SPS user = LHCFAST1 (supercycle = SFT_LONG-3CNGS-LHCFAST-MD37_V1), PS user = TSTLHC25 and PSB user = MD2

#bunches = 12

N_b = 1.3 x 10¹¹ p/b (the intensity could be decreased by a factor 5, if needed, by putting the sieve. In this case inform Heiko to adjust the PS)

Transverse emittances: e^* £ 3 mm

Longitudinal emittance: e_L^* = 0.35 eV.s
