Week 43 - Parallel MD
Reminder 1: There should always be 1 cycle reserved for parallel MDs in the PSB. The two main studies will focus on (1) stability issues on ring 4, and (2) LHC beams production in the LINAC4 era.
Reminder 2: During the week (when possible) the PS will continue to work on the Matrix measurements with the 5-CM PFWs.
Monday 20/10 (08:00 - 18:00) - Inject in the SPS the PS TSTLHC75* beam with rebucketing instead of fine synchro, to see if this improves the situation => Cancelled as the SPS was stopped the whole day (CNGS access) => Will be done on Wednesday 29/10
Beam conditions: SPS user = LHCFAST, PS user = TSTLHC75
and PSB user = LHC75A
Contact Person: H. Damerau
and T. Bohl
* Tests should also be done with LHC75 if possible
(3 basic period cycle required) and with the 50 ns
variant (PS user: TOF, PSB user: LHC25A/B with 50% intensity archive).
Tuesday 21/10 (08:00 - 18:00) - PS transition studies
Beam conditions: PS user = MD2 and PSB user = TOF
Contact Person: S. Aumon and W. Baartman
Wednesday 22/10 (09:00 - 17:00)
2) Prepare the coast at 270 GeV/c in the SPS (no beam), for the Long Injector MD of week 45
Contact Person: OP, BI
Thursday 23/10 (08:00 - 18:00) => Change SPS supercycle (SFT_LONG-3CNGS-LHCFAST-MD37_V1)
1) Wire damage tests in the SPS
Beam conditions: SPS user = SFT_LONG, PS user = SFTPRO
and PSB user = SFTPRO
Usual SFTPRO beams needed in the
different machines (2-2.5E13 p/p in the SPS)
Contact Person: M. Sapinski
2) BBLR in the SPS
Beam conditions: SPS user = MD1, PS user = TSTLHC25 and PSB user = LHC25A
#bunches = 12
Ask the PSB to scan the intensity (with the different archives, from ~ 10 % to nominal) and the PS (Heiko or Steve) to check the beam.
Transverse emittances: e* £ 3 mm
Longitudinal emittance: eL* ~ 0.35 eV.s
Measurements needed:
1) The 1st hour of the MD will be given to the PSB to measure the transverse emittances of each ring (K. Hanke)
2) Transverse coherent tunes in the SPS vs. intensity (B. Salvant)
Contact Person: G. Sterbini
Friday 24/10 (08:00 - 18:00) – Controlled transverse emittance blow-up in the SPS (multi-bunch)
Beam conditions: SPS user = LHCFAST and PS user = LHC25 and PSB user = LHC25A&B
72 bunches, 10% intensity
