Week 44 - Parallel MD

Reminder 1: There should always be 1 cycle reserved for parallel MDs in the PSB. The two main studies will focus on (1) stability issues on ring 4, and (2) LHC beams production in the LINAC4 era.

Reminder 2: During the week (when possible) the PS will continue to work on the Matrix measurements with the 5-CM PFWs.

Monday 27/10 (08:00 - 18:00) - Setting-up MD4 cycle in the PS with long (~ 25 ns at 4 sigmas) bunches (for SPS impedance MD on FR 31/10)

Beam conditions: PS user = MD4

Contact Person: H. Damerau

Tuesday 28/10 (08:00 - 18:00) – References measurements on LHC25 in the PS

Beam conditions: PS user = LHC25 and PSB user = LHC25A&B

Contact Person: H. Damerau

Wednesday 29/10 (08:00 - 18:00) - Inject in the SPS the PS TSTLHC75* beam with rebucketing instead of fine synchro, to see if this improves the situation

Beam conditions: SPS user = LHCFAST, PS user = TSTLHC75 and PSB user = LHC75A

Contact Person: H. Damerau and T. Bohl

* Tests should also be done with LHC75 if possible (3 basic period cycle required) and with the 50 ns variant (PS user: TOF, PSB user: LHC25A/B with 50% intensity archive).

Thursday 30/10 (08:00 - 18:00) - Beam position interlocks studies

There might be an access required by R. Steinhagen (~ 1 h) => To be discussed with OP (ABOC) + Physics coordinator (E. Perez), if not done before

Beam conditions: SPS user = LHCFAST

PS user = LHC25 / LHCINDIV / 50 ns / LHC75

PSB user = LHC25A&B / LHCINDIV / 50 ns / LHC75A&B

Contact Person: J. Wenninger

Friday 31/10 (08:00 - 18:00) => Change SPS supercycle (SFT_LONG-3CNGS-LHCFAST-MD37_V1) between 08:00 and 08:30

Between 08:30 and 09:00 there will be a test in the SPS with an updated Freq. Program on an LHC-type cycle (T. Bohl)

1) SPS transverse impedance

Beam conditions: SPS user = MD1 (supercycle = SFT_LONG-3CNGS-LHCFAST-MD37_V1), PS user = MD4 and PSB user = MD3

#bunches = 1

Nb = San from ~ 1.0 x 1010 p/b to ~ 1.0 x 1011 p/b => Ask Klaus to adjust it in the PSB + Heiko to check that everything is OK in the PS

Transverse emittances: ex,y* are what the PSB can deliver (should be constant over the intensity range, because the intensity is changed with longitudinal shaving, i.e. by changing one vector of the C02 GFA)

Longitudinal emittance: eL* ~ 0.15 eVs

Contact person: B. Salvant

2) Beam position interlocks studies in the SPS (up to ~ 16:00)

Beam conditions: SPS user = LHCFAST

PS user = TOF (= 50 ns LHC beam) / LHC75

PSB user = LHC25A/B with 50% intensity archive (= 50 ns LHC beam) / LHC75A&B

Contact Person: J. Wenninger

3) Inject in the SPS the PS TSTLHC75* beam with rebucketing instead of fine synchro, to see if this improves the situation (from ~ 16:00 to ~18:00)
