Comments made during the presentation "Strategy for Machine Development Studies in 2009" at the IEFC meeting held on 17/04/09:

1) P. Collier mentioned that we should also study the production of the CNGS beam (and not only LHC) in case of problem with the motor/generator set, as if LHC is not taking beam, CNGS has high priority => Foreseen (on 29/04/09) during the 1st Long Injector MD block of week 25 for CNGS and during the 2nd Long Injector MD block of week 29 for LHC (contact person: Y. Papaphillipou)

2) P. Collier wanted to know the situation with the SPS scraper. Elias replied that Karel told him that this will be followed up this year to have an answer by the end of the run.

3) P. Collier would like to see if operation with both ions and high-intensity CNGS beam in the SPS is compatible => This still has to be demonstrated

4) E. Jensen reminded us that during during LHC ion beams operation there will be no 80 MHz RF cavity spare in the PS, which is of course a delicate situation

5) G. Arduini mentioned that the amount of dedicated MD time for ions in the SPS might have been underestimated, remembering the experience of 2007.

6) P. Collier informed us that CNGS operation might be delayed due to problems related to the recent earthquake.

Comments in the minutes of the meeting:

V. Mertens suggested to consider advancing the MD dedicated to the study of the effect of broken PFW in the PS, so that an early decision can be made on the production of new PFW (lead time about 2 years) => This is followed up by S. Gilardoni (29/04/09)
